The Big Payback. OG Lil Jit just unveiled his latest release ‘ROTJ (Revenge Of the Clout’. The seven track opus highlights a young act in control of their charisma, skill and performance style. Whether it’s the instant bopper “High Key” or the infectious “Like Them” Jit has his finger on the pulse of the zeitgeist. We spoke with Hip-Hop’s latest hitmaker about opening up for Prodigy, his performance style and pushing the culture forward.

What’s the origin of your performer name?

I actually gave myself the name OG Lil Jit because I am a jit in the face and at heart but I have the mind of someone that’s been rapping for a long time. That is because I have been rapping since I was 12 years old. Creating music was something that came naturally for me.

Who were your biggest musical influences when developing your sound?

I would say my biggest influences would be Drake, Lil Wayne, and J Cole. Drake because I strive to be a hitmaker, Lil Wayne because I wanna spit on the level he does & J Cole because I like telling stories. They help me become the artist I am today.

Brick 3: What was the moment you knew you wanted to pursue music as a profession?

The moment I knew I wanted to pursue music was when I opened a show for Prodigy from Mobb Deep and the crowd did not know my words, but the energy they gave me back made it click for me. Since then performing has become my favorite thing to do.

What is the biggest misconception about being a recording artist?

That we’re all assholes and we just do it for the money, not for the art or to influence others. I make music for people to enjoy and be inspired. That is my main goal when it comes to creating. Without music I don’t know where I would be in life. Music saved me.

How will people view your brand by the end of 2018?

A genuine unique hustle that strives to push forward the culture.
